Madeleine Vionnet otherwise known as Queen of the bias cut was popularly known for the fit of her grecian style garments that moved when the wearer moved and clung delicately to the wearers frame.
This might explain why she said "when a woman smiles, her dress should smile too". The drapery and fluidity of her creations embraced a woman's curves with out any restrictions.
They did not have the assuming allure that dresses have when corsets and bodices have been placed in them. they where simple architectural designs that sometimes came with an ingenious splatter of embellishment.
Her sole interest was to make clothes that will last a life time, and History has shown that she did.
Jacques Fath was the original "enfant terrible" which is a term that's now used in reference to Jean Paul Gaultier. He will forever be remembered for his flattering dinner dresses that made women look and feel glamorous. Carmel Snow who at the time was the editor of Hapers Bazaar US once said said "He makes you look like you have sex appeal—and believe me, that's important.”
Together with his wife and muse Genevieve Fath, they hosted some of the most effervescent parties of their time. He always had a keen interest in fashion from an early age this probably channeled his ability to teach himself everything he knew as a couturier.
His charm, charisma and good looks intrigued people. The likes of Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, Greta Garbo slipped into his body molding garments for their numerous events.
You could say that Jacques came from art inclined background. His great grandmother was a seamstress/fashion illustrator; great grand father a landscape painter and his grand father a writer.
His father on the other hand owned an insurance brokerage business which Jaques Fath was a part of for a short period before following his dream.
At the age of 25 he opened his own studio at Rue de la Boetie where he employed 10 workers to work with him. It was there he created his first collection of 20 dresses which brought enough capital and awareness for him to develop a larger collection the next season. As young designers, Herbert de Givenchy, Guy Laroche and Valentino Garavani worked in Jacques Fath's studios.
Jacques Fath came up with the idea of constructing a full A line skirt, that would allow women ride their bicycles comfortably when there was a shortage in gasoline after the war. This shows that he paid attention to what women needed in terms of practical yet stylish clothes. Though he died early of leukemia, he is still strongly regarded as one of the dominant fashion figures from the 40's and the 50's.
Carmen Marc Valo spring 2011
Dolce and Gabbana spring 2010
Just noticed how one of the ensembles from the Carmen Marc Valvo spring 2011 collection looks very Dolce & Gabbanna spring 2010, shocking!... The question is, which version of these sexy lacy dresses do you prefer?
The Pretty Cheryl Cole on the cover of Vogue UK October 2010. Photography by Partrick Demarchelier. I particularly like the colours on this cover, the pink, mustard, green and violet hues are a great combination.
For the past month a day hasn't gone by with out me talking about how amazing i think Blake Lively is. I heart this girl, everything looks awesome on her, she has the most beautiful legs ever and shes a really good actress. I can not wait to see "The town" and I used to be a die hard Gossip Girl stan. Anna Wintour seems to have recently found interest in her, and as a result, Blake was able to secure front row seats at and the Dior and Chanel couture shows last season. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a long list of shows they will be attending together this season. Must be great to be Blake, you go girl.
These bags have got me searching everywhere, hoping I can find an affordable version of them Celine is love *sigh*. PS: If you by any chance find an affordable replica, please do not hesitate to let me know!
This fall Silk shirts are the new T-shirts.You can always count on a great blouse or silk shirt to add that extra touch of feminine fabulousness to your outfit. Basics will always have their place but blouses are worth the chase!
Clockwise: Elizabeth and James silk charmeuse blouse, Elizabeth and James Aimee silk blouse, D&G dotted silk-chiffon blouse, black D&G chiffon blouse with neck tie, L'Agence silk blouse, multicoloured D&G chiffon blouse with neck tie.
Chanel Iman on the cover of FLARE October 2010, Photography by Max Abadain. Chanel is simply adorable but sometimes I think she looks the same in every editorial, she needs to switch it up a little. Seeing that cover made me remember the Burberry Prorsum fall 2010 collection (can you tell I am obsessed with it, for me it was the best collection last season) that shade of plum on the jacket and the dress is remarkable and I would kill for the shearling lined boots. I also like this Vogue Australia October 2010 cover featuring Codie Young, the photography was done by Nicole Bentley. I adore the lipstick shes wearing I own one that looks just like it. The pretty dress shes wearing made me remember the Miu Miu fall 2010 collection, which was very feminine and chic. Im uber excited about NYFW it started today *wide grin* and I cant wait to see all the beautiful collections.
It really bothers me when people say things like that concept isn’t new when reviewing a designers collection. The truth is unless its totally out of date like a shoulder padded, puff sleeved floral print skirt suit (all in one), a skirt would never make a great blouse, and a t shirt wouldn’t make a nice pair of shorts. My point is the concept when its comes to silhouette will always be the similar and its up to the designer to personalize and interpret these basic ideas in their own way. So people shouldn’t be so quick to judge designers, it only results in producing all those "designers" with an identity crisis talking about the kind of avant-garde you shouldn’t wear to sleep. No vision, no target market, just designing so people can say they are inventing something totally new. That being said I hope your all having a great day! *wide grin*.
So I stumbled on this editorial called "black beauty" and I thought to my self this girl doesn't look familiar but wow what a strikingly beautiful face. Being the model stalker that I am I did some research on her and it turns out shes currently signed with Diva Models and she is originally from Cape Town in South Africa but moved to Denmark to pursue her modeling career (according to her model mayhem profile).
Moving on, anybody who knows me well enough will know I am a big makeup junkie so this editorial featuring Thula Neka put a wide grin on my face. The photography was done by Isa Jacob, outstanding Hair and Makeup by Zenia Jaeger and styling by My Ringsted.
Another September issue cover I love, the beautiful Natalia Vodianova for Vogue Russia September 2010. Her skin and those earrings put together make perfection at its best. The photography once again was done by the talented duo Mert and Marcus. They also did the covers for Love magazine's fall 2010 issue.
Marion Cotillard looking extra rad on the cover of Vogue Paris September 2010, photography by Mert and Marcus. Marion looks beyond amazing, plus the makeup is impeccable. Looks like the bleached brows and dark lipstick trend is here to stay, well I am not complaining, it creates a perfect feel for fall. Now the only problem is how do I get my hands on a copy? I live in Canada and lets just say most distributors here seem to have an interest in American Vogue alone (can't find Vogue Italia or Vogue Paris sadly....sigh).
Kelly Osbourne one gorgy girl and her style is so adorable, she looks great like all the time especially with that lavender hair I want so badly *deep sigh*. I also love how she lost weight but still kept her curves. I know this is coming in a little late, cause shes been killing it for a minute now, but I cant help myself shes all kinds of chaud!.
